27 years ago, Gina Fowler had an opportunity to work at The Travel Shoppe here in Moberly as a Secretary. One thing led to another and she discovered that being a Travel Agent was her calling. She bought the business in 1999 and now owns Fowler’s Travel.
Fowler is a member of the Moberly Area Chamber of Commerce and was chosen for our member spotlight for the month of November. Michelle had the opportunity to sit down with Fowler to talk about the work that she does here in Moberly.
Fowler’s Travel handles anything to do with travel which can fall under the umbrella of tours, packages and cruises. She specializes in trips to the Caribbean, Mexico and Walt Disney World. For couples that are looking to do a destination wedding she can help plan with these as well.
“A lot of people don’t have the time [to plan a vacation]. People like that I can come in and I take a lot of information from them and I can start doing the digging to find the resorts and the flights. It takes a lot of headache out of the traveler, “she says.
Fowler says one of the best things about booking through her is that the vacation packages that she creates are all-inclusive. This means that all meals, drinks, activities, and entertainment are bundled into one rate.
“There’s all kind of price ranges to choose from and this is a no-hassle way to travel,” Fowler explains.
Not having to worry about carrying money around is another benefit to all-inclusive traveling. What time of the year and where clients are traveling will make the decision on how far out clients should set up an consultation,
“If you are looking at holiday travel you might want to plan a little bit earlier to ensure that you get availability,” she stated.
The majority of people contact her six months to a year in advance, which gives her enough time to plan a trip accordingly. Many potential clients believe that Fowler charges for her services, but she wants to explain that this is not true,
“I get paid through my vendors. This creates a lot of value for my clients.”
Additionally, this creates a less stressful process because no extra payments are being made other than the money that is going towards creating an amazing vacation.
Vacations are tremendously important to everyone, especially for mental health reasons. Everyone needs a vacation at one point or another. Fowler says that her favorite aspect about her job is making people happy and hearing about their experiences or the great time that they had from their vacation. Additionally, she spends a lot of her time researching and staying up to date on the latest trends. The travel industry is always changing and that is another aspect she enjoys about her job.
Fowlers recommends that no matter where people are going that they should be educated on policies and procedures.
"There is so much new information. New taxes, new fees, new id requirements. There is just a lot of information that I feel that people need to be aware of. That is one of the resources that I offer to make sure [clients] know what to expect, especially if they are traveling out of the country,” she says.
Fowler is expanding the type of travel that she plans into group and day-trip traveling. She is currently planning a group trip and hopes to expand this service more towards women’s groups and other community organizations.
The biggest take away that Fowler wants people to know is that she is a professional and is going to do whatever it takes to help her clients have the best trip of their lives.
