Surrounding Communities

Although Moberly is the biggest city in Randolph County, the county seat is actually located in Huntsville, population 1,629, which is just 12 miles west of Moberly. Huntsville is home to the county offices and justice center. Popular events held in Huntsville include the Old Settlers Reunion, Flywheel Reunion, and Huntsville Horse Shoe. Westran Elementary and High School are both located in Huntsville and are home to the Westran Hornets and Lady Hornets.

Clifton Hill is a few miles further west from Huntsville. Clifton Hill is the home of Shepherd Farms where you will find Buffalo grazing the green hills along the highway as well as a 5,000 tree Pecan Farm. Associated Electric Cooperative -Thomas Hill Energy Center is also located in the Clifton Hill area with a 1.5 billion gallon lake and 5,000 acre wildlife refuge.

Higbee, population 653, is located 10 miles south west of Moberly and has many community-minded activities, including the Higbee Fair. Higbee is also home to A&K Cooperage where wine barrels are made and shipped all over the world. Most recently, the Kirby family has begun to make wine which is bottled and sold on the premises.

Approximately 6 miles south of Moberly, you will find the Village of Renick, population 236. Renick is a great example of a very close knit community that strongly supports their own preschool and elementary school as well as a local hometown restaurant.

Clark, MO sits on the southern edge of Randolph County and has a population of 290. Clark is the birthplace of Five Star General Omar Bradley. A West Point graduate, General Bradley was also selected as the First Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in 1949.

Cairo is approximately 8 miles north of Moberly on Hwy 63 and has a population of 305. Further north on Hwy 63 is Jacksonville, population 171. The school district for Cairo and Jacksonville is Northeast R-IV. The school has grades K-12 and is home to the Bearcats and Lady Bearcats. The Lady Bearcats were Girls State Softball Champions and Girls State Basketball Champions for the 2007-2008 school year. Jacksonville is the location of The Missouri State Veteran’s cemetery, with beautiful, park-like grounds.
